just read if you are bored...

Ten thousand things to share...(in case I haven't spoken a word intellegent recently)

First of all, back to London - Hadrian: Empire and Conflict exhibition is on at the British Museum between 24 July and 26 Oct.

What's it about: I don't know quite the exact, but for those who haven't heard of Hadrian's wall, this is the British version of the Great Wall in north west of England.  As the wall was built by the Romans, it should have something to do with this Emporer Hadrian.  Check out on the wikipedia (I don't understand why we can get wiki in China this time of the year, but anyway it's just great to have everything explained simple and plain with a click away).  This exhibition lets you find out about this fascinating man who spent more than half his reign travelling his vast empire (for those who are alive in Britain, simply make your way to Great Russel Street !)

Why sharing this: anything with a note on Rome should not be (too) boring :P

Next, travelling to Germany, introducing the dream destination: Mecklenburg

What's it about: Germany's Mecklenburg region is a bit like the English Lakes, "bundled by with the Broads and multiplied by ten" (Ray Kershaw, the Independent).  You can roughly locate it between Berlin and Hamburg.  The following picture explains why this looks like a dream destination and the rest rests all in your imagination.

why sharing this: primarily for Aggie who probably drinks a dozen beer everyday now since her move to this country, Germany, which always sounds hopelessly boring to me.  The fact that the handsomest boy in our MSc class is from Germany doesn't help developing his home country image, and nor does Schweinsteiger (although I did manage to get out of bed to watch that Euro Cup final at 3 AM for his sake!)  Apologize for sharing stereotypes here, I just can't help....(OK, it's not that bad.  I just dislike its sausages)

Third, some celebrity gossip (tabloids alwasy do us good health)

Heather Mills has celebrated her £25m divorce from Sir Paul McCartney by going on a £250,000 holiday to the Caribbean with an entourage of 20 friends and staff (source: the Sunday Mirror).  The party included Mill's new boyfriend, her personal trainer, an interior designer, an estate agent and a private photographer.

Sienna Miller: the British actress is having an affair with the American oil heir and married father of four, Balthazar Getty.  Last week US website branded her a "home-wrecker" with "no morals", after pictures emerged of her cavorting topless with Getty while on holiday in Italy.  (The change from Judy Law to Rhys Ifans already amazed me, and I suppose this oil heir looks closer to normal, pity that all attention are drawn to 'married father of four', sigh... for those who don't know who Rhys Ifans is, get out your Nottinghill DVD and see who shares the flat with Hugh Grant).

Fourth, words from the scientists...(I tried to pick the less boring ones)

Why women like a bit of stubble - good news for men who resent shaving every day!

Psychologists have discovered that women are more attracted to men with five o'clock shadows than those who are clean-shaven, or wear full beards.  Stubbly men are rated as tough, mature, dominant, aggressive and masculine, and the best partners for flings and longer-term relationships (lord, I can feel my hand tremblling when typing this...)  Men with full beards were rated as the least attractive and worst choice for a fling; the clean-shaven men were considered the least masculine, and the least desirable for a long-term relationship.

Finally, words of wit and wisdom

  • The pleasure of the past is the pleasure of illusion.  (Simon Jenkins, quoted in The Independent)
  • Bad imitation really is the worst sort of flattery. (Martin Ivens in The Sunday Times)
  • The way to love anything is to realise that it might be lost.  (G.K. Chesterton, quoted in The Independent)
  • Beer is the living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.  (Benjamin Franklin, quoted in the Washington Post)
  • Sometimes, paranoids just have all the facts.  (William S. Burroughs, quoted in The Guardian)
(sources: The Week, issue 673-675)

love revolution OST
